REVIEWED: Lucas Hicks – Slower EP

I don’t mind telling you that I was excited when the first tune kicked in. “Day Off” is a feel-good indie rocker.

A cursory glance through Hicks’ one sheet confirms my suspicion that he is a student of the 90’s Halifax scene.

Throw a little more dirt on that guitar and the three remaining tunes could easily be at home on Sloan’s first record. Unpopular though my opinion may be, I personally rank Smeared amoung the most boring records ever recorded next to, maybe, Chain Lightning by Don MacLean.

The other similarity between Lucas Hicks and the bands that he admires – Sloan, Thrush Hermit et al - is that he also has the potential to grow into the fine pop rock songwriter that his muses have.
