SONIC CONCERTS presents MARK KOZELEK at THE CARLETON, FEB. 2 & 3

Singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters is coming to Halifax for a solo acoustic performance at The Carleton on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 3 at 9 p.m.

Starting out with Red House Painters in 1989, Kozelek released six studio albums with the band, including Songs for a Blue Guitar and Old Ramon before disbanding in 2001.  He went on to release solo albums before forming Sun Kil Moon with former band mates Jerry Vessel and Anthony Koutsos.

Sun Kil Moon’s debut Ghosts of the Great Highway was released in 2003 and featured some of Kozelek’s best-known songs, including “Carry Me Ohio” and “Lily and Parrots”.  The follow up, 2005’s Tiny Cities, was a record of Modest Mouse covers and was released on Kozelek’s own label Caldo Verde.  The band’s latest, Admiral Fell Promises was released last year and a documentary “Mark Kozelek: On Tour” debuted this past August.

Along with his music, Kozelek has been featured in films, including “Almost Famous,” “Vanilla Sky” and Steve Martin’s “Shopgirl” where he performed Sun Kil Moon’s “Lily and Parrots” live.

Pitchfork said, “…a gifted, intuitive, and insightful songwriter, with an aversion to sentimentality and a way of combining words that is evocative without being showy or clever.”
